The Ichthyology Inn Our new fourth lodge will be larger than our other sleeping lodges and will allow us to serve 33 percent more children through all our programs: our School Overnight Program, our Family Weekend Programs and our children's Summer Programs. In addition, this lodge will allow us to increase our ability to serve more teachers through professional development workshops for educators, as well as other adults through Leadership and Team Building Programs. Sixteen Individual Lodge Sleeping Rooms The Ichthyology Inn will feature 16 guest rooms with capacity to sleep 4-6 students per room. Like our other lodges, each room will have its own theme and will be named after a native Puget Sound species—in this case saltwater or freshwater fish. Additionally the sleeping room will contain a large interpretive panel that describes the featured fish in detail (i.e. where it lives, how it reproduces, what it eats, how long it lives, etc). For example, there will be a Sockeye Salmon room, a Pacific Lamprey room and a Spotted Ratfish room. The lodge bunkrooms will feel similiar to our existing lodges, but will be upgraded to include queen sized beds to better serve adults in programs when children are not using the lodge, providing greater program flexibility. Like our current lodges, each room will have a private bathroom with water heated by solar roof panels and full wireless technology. The rooms have been named! The links below will tell you something about each fish. Enjoy.
Lodge "Great Room" Gathering Space The Ichthyology Inn's Great Room will provide a beautiful and relaxed setting for casual meeting, reading, sitting by the fire, or playing one of the many board games that fill the shelves. This cozy space will provide an informal retreat for children and adult guests alike. The room will be equipped with A/V equipment, meeting tables and comfortable seating. As in our exisiting lodges, the new lodge's great room will provide a "living" space for comfort and conversation and allow teachers to use the space for meetings with their students before and after their time outside in the field. The Ichthyology Fossil Fireplace Similiar to other fireplaces on campus, the Ichthyology Inn's fireplace will recreate the geological composition and fossils from several oceans dating back hundreds of millions of years. The fossils within the rock fireplace will be used to teach about the evolution of fish, and the fireplace will feature an artisan-carved wood mantel that depicts several local native fish. Lodge Great Room Technology & A/V Systems Audio/visual resources are essential for group presentations and enabling remote professionals to participate. The meeting space will be equipped with a high resolution LCD Projector, projection screen, VCR and Laptop (which includes a DVD Player), Internet connectivity and whiteboards. Outdoor Garden Gathering Area and Fire Circle The landscaped area located outside the Great Room of the Ichthyology Inn is designed to provide an outdoor gathering space for both kids and adults. It will create an outdoor classroom that features native plants, stone benches and its own fire circle that can be used for smaller groups needing their own campfire on evenings where the Friendship Circle is being used for other programs.
