“Building on the IslandWood Vision” Reaches its $8.4 Million Goal
With gratitude, pride and excitement, capital campaign co-chairs Kim Ackerley Cleworth and Martha Kongsgaard are thrilled to announce that the “Building on the IslandWood Vision” Capital Campaign has reached its $8.4 million goal.
Thank you to everyone who made a gift, introduced a friend, attended an event, spread the good word, and volunteered their time and talent. This was truly a community-wide effort, and we couldn’t have done it without everyone doing their part – and we fully recognize and appreciate your support.

Construction of the Ichthyology Inn is in the “Home” stretch!
Our new lodge, the Ichthyology Inn, will be the home away from home for 1,000 students each school year. The exterior is completed, and we anticipate welcoming our first groups into the new lodge in June. This green-built structure features highly efficient technologies that not only save energy but also teach lessons on how to conserve.

IslandWood Laundry Facility Up and Running
When running a residential program, laundry is a way of life. Imagine a closet overflowing with sheets and towels, and you can picture the past at IslandWood. The new laundry structure is now able to manage laundry for hundreds of guests each week, offering energy efficient, water-saving technology while reducing costs and improving the life of our linens.

The Daily Work Continues
Our expansion is funded but the day-to-day work of IslandWood continues – every day. This year more than 3,500 students will learn and grow in our School Overnight Program. Nearly two–thirds of those kids come from low income schools and many need scholarships so they can make it to IslandWood. To keep our program affordable for all kids we need your help. Your gift will go directly to offset the costs of our 4–day overnight experience. The students work hard, and when they leave we know their test scores increase, their self-esteem and confidence soar, and they are more likely to become leaders in their communities. Please consider helping us fill those new buildings every day with an on–line donation or by calling Tami McDaniel, Development Manager, at 206–855–4362.
