Programs to Connect and Inspire at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island
Our team building programs provide your organization with an extraordinary experience in a beautiful and absorbing environment.
A unique experience
At IslandWood, what might have been an ordinary meeting back at the office becomes a watershed event for participants. We co-design our IslandWood Team Building Programs with each participating group to create transformational experiences. Building on your vision and objectives, we integrate IslandWood curriculum and educational expertise with your business content. This deepens the messages of your meeting for lasting results.
Our approach: using nature to inspire
We blend a variety of learning methods that take groups beyond the theoretical, creating actual hands-on experiences that encourage and sustain forthright conversations. Our educational staff and facilitators have years of experience integrating business content with experiential activities. They are experts in using the natural world as a metaphor for the broader communities in which you do business. We continually design innovative educational modules that engage participants at levels beyond what is possible in a typical work environment. We can work directly with you or partner with a facilitator of your preference.
Strengthening your team
Programs may include activities such as:
Tailored Teams Course
An experience that enhances teamwork, promotes trust, problem-solving, and communications between individuals in a group setting. Each Teams Course element is framed within the context of the client’s business and is followed by a facilitated debrief in order support the transfer of learning to business practices. The Teams Course experience effectively encourages and highlights changes in the group’s feeling, thinking and behaving in ways that can be further explored through other program activities.
Naturalist-led Hikes or Walks
Hikes or walks through the woods and out to Blakely Harbor are accompanied by a wealth of information regarding local flora and fauna, birding, owl research, and marine biology. Early-morning bird walks and late-evening night hikes explore the outdoors at the most enchanting and mysterious times, creating a deep connection to the natural world that is truly magical. You may also want to do a solo walk exercise, facilitated by IslandWood, this program provides your team members with the opportunity to get in touch with nature, their own personal beliefs and center themselves to better connect with each other throughout the rest of the retreat.
Sustainable Cooking Class and Garden Program
This is a fun and educational program that focuses on turning theory into practice with our fun and professional culinary team. Guests work with our chefs to create food with ingredients from our organic kitchen garden. Weather permitting, cooking sessions may be held in our organic garden using our outdoor wood-fired cob oven. Regional and organic wines can be included.

Evening at the Friendship Circle
What better way to conclude a day of working together than to relax and enjoy the soothing warmth and cozy intimacy of an evening bonfire? Host your own team, or allow our outdoor educators to delight and entertain you and your guests with campfire stories, songs, and, of course, s’mores!
Art in the Woods
An IslandWood arts session will encourage guests to connect with the outdoors through art, which could include creating a “one-of-a-kind” piece for you to take home as a memory of your gathering!
Projects include painting, poetry/journaling, making prints from materials found in the natural world, creating picture frames from twigs and other resources found on site, community drumming, and rhythmic dance.
Adventure Racing
This unique program engages participants on intellectual, emotional, and physical levels. Essentially a high-tech scavenger hunt in the woods, this program provides an opportunity for your guests to get out and explore our rugged 255-acre property in a fun, team-based game. The idea is to facilitate bonding and teamwork by creating teams with individuals that don’t know one another well.
