Natural Sciences on Site

The study of nature is a significant part of everyone's experience at IslandWood.

Our campus was built on a tree farm with areas that had not been logged for 20 to 80 years. As you walk around our campus, you are able to view many stages of the forest, and meet many of it's inhabitants.

Over time we plan to develop and implement a variety of scientific research projects. We have a few in the works now, and will add them to this web site when we have more to tell. Keep an eye out for data - and interpretations of that data - from children visiting IslandWood as part of their school program. You will be able to learn about or nesting Barred Owls, the water quality of our streams and ponds, and some other interesting things.

We're also working on a weekly "Nature Notes" piece from our Naturalists. When that's ready, you'll have the chance to find it right here!

Meanwhile, there are a few documents under "Related Content" that will pique your interest about what you might see on a visit to IslandWood.
